CTFF Processing

CTFF processing

Hyper Tech developed and patented a continuous tube forming and filling (CTFF) process to make a powder metallurgy version of superconductor wires. The illustration below shows a conceptual drawing of the process. Wire begins with a metal strip that is formed into a tube while being filled continuously with powder. Historically, all other manufacturers of superconductor wire use a batch process consisting of filling tubes of a fixed length with powder, which requires larger and larger tubes to obtain longer lengths of wire. This traditional method involves more wire processing (drawing or extrusion) and thus incurs higher manufacturing costs.
